Londoners have woken to temperatures of -1C with the promise of a maximum of just 5C, and the Met Office said rain moving across Wales and England in the early hours has the potential to turn to snow.
Snow is already being reported in parts of north-west England, the Midlands and southern England.
A yellow weather warning is in place for snow and ice for England from the north-west down through the Midlands and across to Taunton in the west and London in the east. Parts of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are also under a warning for snow.
