The group raised the alarm on the poisonous cosmetics on the celebration of International Women’s Day.
“Women’s bodies have no use for the hazardous substances lurking inside some lipstick tubes that can bring about neurological problems, hormonal imbalances, reproductive abnormalities and other diseases with frequent use,” Thony Dizon, the group’s chemical safety campaigner, said.
“The authorities should crack down on the importers, distributors and retailers of these poison lipsticks from abroad. Lead and other toxic metals have no place in cosmetics and other consumer products,” he said.
A statement from the group said they bought 30 samples of these lipsticks from Divisoria, 168 and 999 shopping malls in Manila Sunday, March 7 so they may be screened for heavy metals using a handheld X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) device. The lipsticks cost P25 to P50 each.
