HBKU webinar discusses impact of gender quotas on women’s political participation  11 Jul 2021 - 8:55 The Peninsula Doha: The fourth in a series of webinars tackling contemporary women’s issues, organised by Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU)’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS), gathered parliamentarians, civil rights activists, and advocates to discuss the adoption of gender quota systems in the Arab region.  Although the introduction of electoral quotas for public elections - requiring a percentage of female representation - has been controversial in some countries, research has shown these to be effective in ‘fast-tracking women’s political representation to produce equality of results, not only equality of opportunity.

HBKU launches Qatari Women s Affairs Series

(MENAFN - The Peninsula) Doha: The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), has kicked off its new Qatari Women s Affairs Series with a discussion titled ‘Are Women Set for the Upcoming Shura Council Elections?   The first webinar in the series focused on Qatar s upcoming Shura Council elections in October 2021 and womens participation in them, as a major milestone that will yield future outcomes not only within the country, but the entire region.  After the elections, the power of the country s highest legislative body will be expanded in accordance with the Qatari Constitution.
