Doha: The State of Qatar believes in multilateral action and the need for the international system to represent the values of humanity, justice and equality, said Assistant Foreign Minister and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs HE Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater, adding that this cannot be achieved without having a fair international law that respects the right to humanity and a decent life for all peoples, and that if the international law fails to do so, then unfortunately there will be an incomplete law and justice, like the oppression, violence and deprivation that the Palestinian brothers have been living in under the occupation for decades, in full view of the international community.

Doha: To coincide with the celebration of Qatar National Day, the College of Law at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) recently presented an online colloquium Reflections on Democracy and the Constitution of Qatar.
Framing the first public discussion of this subject was the recent announcement by Amir H H Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, that the country will hold the first elections for its Shura Council (Advisory Council) in 2021, in accordance with the Permanent Constitution. The Shura Council is Qatar’s legislative body, also responsible for determining the general budget and providing a check on executive powers. The election of 30 of its 45 members is considered an important step toward the wider participation of the country’s citizenship in its legislative process.
