Israel has closed the Gaza Strip s Erez crossing point. Following rocket fire early this morning toward Israel’s southern communities, Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) Maj.-Gen. Rassan Alian announced the immediate closure until further notice, except for humanitarian and exceptional cases.
In a Facebook post Alian noted, During the past week, we have all seen the violence breaking out in the Judea and Samaria [West Bank] area, the Gaza Strip, and even Jerusalem. Some of the participants believe sincerely that they are protecting the holy sites. But in fact, they are defiling them during the blessed month of Ramadan and on Qadr Night (Laylat al-Qadr). The participants are being cynically incited and exploited by those who are trying to escalate and inflame the situation, using violent and inciteful rhetoric on social and mainstream media.

IDF patrol in Judea and Samaria
The Israel Defense Forces reinforced the forces stationed in Judea and Samaria on Sunday due to concerns over the ongoing Arab violence in Jerusalem, and an escalation in terror attacks in the region.
Three extra battalions were deployed in Judea and Samaria in response to recent terror attacks, including a drive-by shooting in Samaria that has taken the life of one yeshiva student and wounded two others, and an attack on the Salem Border Guard Police base.

The move also came in response to the ongoing violence taking place in Jerusalem.

The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas called on Friday for Palestinian resistance factions in Gaza to be ready for any Israeli escalation at Al-Aqsa Mosque and in Jerusalem s neighbourhoods, a statement has announced.
In the statement, Hamas hailed the people of Jerusalem who have been engaged in fighting Israeli occupation forces at the Damascus Gate, Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood and all villages and neighbourhoods of Jerusalem, to continue the freedom struggle against the occupation.
