The Election Commission (EC) has called on political parties to avoid using derogatory language for persons with disabilities in public discourse, as it can be seen as an affront to them. The EC warns that the foundation of democracy lies in the representation of all communities in the electoral process. Common examples of ableist language include words like dumb, retarded, blind, deaf, and lame.
