ISKANDAR PUTERI: A 79-year-old man drowned after falling from a jetty into about a metre of water at Puteri Harbour here.
Iskandar Puteri Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Shamsul Khomari Bakar said the department received a distress call at 6.48pm on Monday (Feb 15).
He added that the victim has been identified as Abdul Rahman Abdul Majid and said he was reported missing after a witness found his slippers at the jetty at Jalan Bayu Warisan in Emerald Bay.
“We began a search and rescue operation involving 12 department personnel, five from the Tebrau Fire Station Water Rescue Unit (PPDA), five from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and 21 policemen.
ISKANDAR PUTERI: The body of a man who went missing while fishing for crabs in Kampung Simpang Arang here has been found.
Iskandar Puteri Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Shamsul Khomari Bakar said the victim, Wang Nad, in his 40s, was found at around 4pm on Friday (Jan 8).
On Thursday (Jan 7), a missing persons report was lodged at 8.48am. His remains were found near the mangrove forest of Sungai Karang, about 2km from where his boat was spotted earlier. The victim is believed to have drowned, he said.
A total of 28 firemen and 30 members of the public in 20 boats assisted the search and rescue operation.

JOHOR BAHRU: An Orang Asli man was missing while catching mud crabs at Sungai Boh mangrove swamp in Gelang Patah, Iskandar Puteri, yesterday.
Iskandar Puteri Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Shamsul Khomari Bakar said the man, Wangti Nad, in his 40s, hailed from Kampung Orang Asli Simpang Arang.
He said Wangti was reported to have left the house to catch mud crabs at the mangrove swamp at 7 am yesterday and had not returned since.
“According to his wife, he normally returned home at 2 pm, but when he did not turn up yesterday, she sought help from the villagers to locate her husband, only to find his boat at the location,” he said in a statement here, today.

Seri Alam acting OCPD Deputy Supt Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the victim, Ong Kim Hin, who owns a mushroom cultivation centre at a mall, was with an employee when the incident took place at around 11.40am on Tuesday (Dec 15).
“They had been installing gas cylinders in a steam generator and when Ong turned on the knob, the gas cylinder in front of him exploded.
“The impact threw him to the ground and he sustained severe injuries to the face and head.
