Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are the backbone of the Indian economy. According to Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), SMEs in India include 63.4 million units, account for nearly 30 per cent of India s GDP, and employ around 460 million people. The sector also makes up for 33.4 per cent of India s output in manufacturing, giving employment to around 120 million Indians. By providing employment across different industries, the sector serves to boost the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative of the government.
