more women consume wine than men. we re looking at two industries. wine and beer. we know that beer is $240 billion. so if we re not improving the jobs for young americans, what happens to that industry? because they are doing well in places like china. well, the interesting thing i m going to get back to your question in one second. sure. while men drink more beer, men have been drinking less beer over time as have women. we ve been switching more to wine and we ve been switching more to hard liquor and i m not sure what that says about us. is that connected to more marketed or is it connected to the purse string? purse string, i think, because it s certainly true outside the united states when you look at emerging markets. one of the first things that people do is they gain wealth is they get better booze. the second thing they do is eat better and put more meat in their diet. we think about all these other things but booze is very important in emerging markets. that s
stop working until i get something. i m going to shut down the whole plant until i get something. you get fired. so, he s against strikes. who knew? all the people that supported him, he was against them. who knew? so earlier i pointed out that government is working exactly the way it s supposed to. in article one, sections 1, 2, 3 of the constitution, founding fathers outlined the house of representatives were the population to hold the purse string. senators were elected in states that had representation. if they don t agree, they have to work out differences. they have for 237 years. that s a good point. do you have eye posture? this is a thing reported in the daily mail. i have this problem. where you re hunched over looking at your iphone.
republicans should reject it. do you want to respond? i don t want to shut down the government. i don t think many of my republican colleagues do. we want to give the senate, ted cruz, lee, these guys have been asking for a bill, attached to the cr, that would defund obama care. they asked for it, we gave it to them. let s see them deliver. if they don t, what are you going to do? what if they send you back legislation a continuing resolution that will fund the government, they send it back to the house of representatives, but it doesn t defund obama care? what do you do then in. i think we go to conference. listen, this is one of the leverage points we have in a divided government. as the house we control the purse string. use the leverage to get something. i think the american people want obama care defunded, that s what eheard at town hall meetings, surveys are showing it. the president s giving exemptions to corporate friends, labor unions saying, bad idea. maybe there s comp
also, you cannot afford to have egypt implode. that is one reason why so many people have gone out onto the streets because of the terrible economy there and sense of a state that was failing. it is true the muslim brotherhood failed at governance. but i m a little worried about a backlash and i m concerned about what this says about democracy in that region. the u.s. completely pulls all aid out, you re taking any u.s. interest, take yourself out of the equation. which they don t want to do, shouldn t. correct. but they need to hold the military to account and make sure they go back to civilian rule asap. and 52 back to the difficult place the u.s. is in and that s a balance. difficult. they re holding the purse string. pick up the phone, tell your generals. do it. we ll talk to you throughout the show. thanks so much. long day for christian amanpour. the burden of being the best. the burden of being the best.
to get their ideological way. i think for eric cantor to come out and say aha, we have another way of playing this same game, is not going to help with independent voters or people in those states who may need assistance. let me say, michael steele is exactly right. this is not the first thing that should come out of his mouth when people are still picking up the pieces. let me be fair to congressman cantor by sharing what his spokesman said. he went on the defense when asked about requesting aid back in 04. quote the national debt was at the time under $8 trillion and 8.67 try wrong which nancy pelosi became speaker. today the debt assistants at 14.625, mean that while democrats controlled the purse string, the national debt literally exploded. we have living in different times. so michael steele, his point is, you can ask for offsets because we find our selves in dire straits. this is where the rank-and-file republicans have a little rub.
