A Purdue University-led project will receive $5 million in funding through a Greater Lafayette economic development initiative to support the expected regional workforce demand in the promising semiconductor manufacturing industry, Purdue and community officials announced Wednesday (Dec. 7).
Purdue University and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) will soon launch a dual-degree master’s program in semiconductors as part of a newly signed agreement to cooperate in education and research in semiconductors and microelectronics.
"I m committed to building an economy of the future with these global partners who are helping propel Indiana forward by creating tomorrow’s businesses, today," said Gov. Eric Holcomb.
A future workforce capable of providing the secure microelectronics that will be needed by the U.S. government and industry are essential to the nation’s economy and security, and a program headed by Purdue University aims to make sure that happens.
