Senate election 2021: PTI emerges as largest party with 26 seats

PPP and PML-N secured eight and five seats each in the Upper House of the Parliament out of 48 seats
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Despite major blow to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for losing Islamabad general seat to Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) candidate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, the ruling party has emerged largest political party with 26 seats in the Upper House of the Parliament.
According to unofficial results, the PTI managed to grab 18 seats, while Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) secured eight and five seats respectively in the Upper House of the Parliament out of 48 seats.
All candidates from Punjab elected unopposed to Senate

LAHORE: After the withdrawal of seven more nomination papers by candidates on Thursday, all candidates from Punjab for the Senate elections were declared elected unopposed on general seats.
According to the provincial election commission sources, the candidates who were declared elected unopposed on general seats were: Kamil Ali Agha, Saifullah Sarwar Khan Nyazee, Afnan-Ullah Khan, Aon Abbas, Ejaz Ahmad Chaudhry, Sajid Mir and Irfan-ul-Haq Siddiqui.
The sources said the notification of the elected candidates would be issued, along with other elected Senate candidates across country after March 3.
Azam Nazir Tarar and Barrister Syed Ali Zafar had already been declared elected unopposed on the technocrat seats, while Zarqa Suharwardy and Saadia Abbasi were declared elected unopposed on the women seats. Thursday was the last day for withdrawal of nomination papers.

According to the Election Commission sources, Sadia Abbasi of PML-N and Dr Zarqa of PTI have won the women s seats.
Sources said that PML-N s candidate Saira Afzal Tarar withdrew her nomination papers for the Senate polls after which there was no third candidate to contest the two women s seats.

LAHORE: Two candidates have won the women’s seats in Punjab for the Senate elections unopposed. According to the Election Commission sources, Sadia Abbasi of PML-N and Dr Zarqa of PTI have won the women’s seats. Sources said that PML-N’s candidate Saira Afzal Tarar withdrew her nomination papers for the Senate polls after which there was no third candidate to contest the two women s seats.
Aside from the women s seats, two candidates contesting the technocrat seats have also won unopposed. These include PML-N s Azam Nazir Tarar and PTI s Syed Ali Zafar.
Sources said that Saud Majeed of PML-N withdrew his nomination papers for the technocrat seat which automatically paved the way for Tarar and Zafar to win the seats.
