Pune Rural police arrest 39 criminals in combing operations | Pune News

Representative image PUNE: The Pune Rural police on Sunday carried out an elaborate combing operation in the entire district and arrested 39 criminals on police records. They also recovered four country-made pistols, six cartridges and six sharp weapons. They checked hotels, lodges, petrol stations and vehicles. Senior inspector of the local crime branch Padmakar Ghanwat said 79 teams comprising 72 police officers and 307 personnel had been formed. “During the drive, the teams had checked 158 criminals with a previous record of possessing illegal firearms. We have recovered four country-made pistols, six cartridges and six sharp weapons from 11 suspects,” Ghanwat said. The police also checked about 352 criminals who are on the run. “Of these, 39 have been taken into custody. We have also registered an offence against three criminals for violating the externment order,” Ghanwat said.

Maharashtra to vaccinate 51,000 every day on launching its drive at 511 centres | Pune News

The upcoming cold storage for the Covid vaccine in Kanjur on Saturday PUNE: The state health department aims to vaccinate nearly 51,000 beneficiaries daily when the Covid-19 inoculation drive begins for priority groups. Dr Archana Patil, director of state health services, said that the drives would be carried out at 511 vaccination centres across the state. Officials are currently identifying such sites. Dr Patil said that every municipal corporation in the state would have eight to 10 designated vaccination centres within its limits. “Basic facilities that are required at these sites include internet connectivity and trained IT personnel who know the CoWIN system well,” she said.

Indelible ink mark plea for vax-takers | Pune News

Pune: Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope on Friday said the state has requested the Union government to consider applying the indelible ink on the fingers of the beneficiaries receiving the Covid-19 vaccine on the lines of identifying the voters after polling. The state conducted a fairly successful dry run across 114 centres on Friday, when the health machinery checked its preparedness to handle the Covid-19 vaccination. “We have requested the Union health ministry to use the indelible ink during the vaccination programme, in the lines of which it is done during election. Once the beneficiary has been vaccinated, his finger should be inked. Even if the Union government doesn t approve it, we will follow it in Maharashtra,” Tope said. Swatee Kher

Maharashtra: First come, first served rounds back for FYJC as 42% seats still unfilled | Pune News

Representative image PUNE/MUMBAI: The education department will soon declare first-year junior college (FYJC) admissions on a first come, first served basis in Mumbai, Pune, Amravati, Aurangabad, Nagpur and Nashik. The second special round will end on January 9. By the end of the first special round, out of a total intake of 5.6 lakh, as many as 3.2 lakh students had confirmed their admissions; 2.4 lakh seats were still vacant. Last year, the education department decided to do away with the first come, first served (FCFS) rounds and instead host additional merit-based admission rounds after three regular ones. A government resolution to the effect was issued on June 24, 2020.

The city ranked 12th across India and has been classified a ‘new metro’. The study covered 13,000 people across 34 major cities of the country during October-November 2020.
