The Pune district administration on Saturday cancelled the
Mohan Multi-Specialty Hospital’s recognition as a
COVID-Care Centre after discovery of 22 lapses of
COVID norms set out by the state and the district disaster management facility. It has also been ordered that all emergency medical equipment be confiscated and the
hospital sealed post recovery of the last admitted patient.

After a three-day drop, Covid-19 cases and related fatalities surged across Maharashtra and Mumbai on Wednesday. The state registered 57,640 cases and 920 deaths within a 24-hour period. The total Covid caseload of the state surged to 48.8 lakh while the total fatalities touched 72,662. The daily case fatality rate of the state was 1.6% on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) minister Rajendra Shingane on Wednesday said supply of remdesivir to the state would improve after May 10. (This story originally appeared in on May 04, 2021)PUNE: A combination of diabetes, Covid-19 and a one-size-fits-all approach to steroid use has caused an upsurge in deadly fungal infections among patients.
Most big hospitals in the region said they’re treating at least one case of an invasive fungal infection called mucormycosis or aspergillosis every day. There are about 60 big hospitals in the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR).
Amid a vaccine scarcity in the Maharashtra, as many as 3,667 beneficiaries in the 18-44 age group were inoculated across Pune district on Saturday and Sunday. The government has launched phase 3 of the drive on May 1. On Sunday, the inoculation numbers increased to 2,325 beneficiaries in the Pune Metropolitan Region. The office of the deputy director of the health services said till they get fresh stock of vaccines from the Centre, the drive for the 45 plus age group has been put on hold. Civic bodies have had to halt Covid-19 vaccination for the 45-plus age group and health and frontline workers as there has been no supply of the vaccine for some time now. Private hospitals in the Pune civic limits are in a fix over holding their regular vaccination sessions after Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials told them to source the doses directly from vaccine makers. This may force the private hospitals to halt the vaccination sessions for the next two months, starting May 1. The state cabinet has announced to extend the lockdown like restrictions for another fortnight, that is, from May 1 to 15.
