MP Dehenna Davison s one-punch justice campaign backed by police leaders A CAMPAIGN seeking “fairer justice” for one-punch assault victims and families has been backed by Durham’s police commissioner. Bishop Auckland MP Dehenna Davison has launched an all-party parliamentary group (APPG) to look at sentencing around single-strike attacks. She launched the campaign, and wrote about it for The Northern Echo, on the 14th anniversary of her dad Dominic’s death following an assault. The Office of the Durham Police, Crime and Victims’ Commissioner has thrown its weight behind the MP’s campaign, saying it is committed to campaigns that raise awareness and educate people about the impact a single punch can have.

Donington man jailed for one punch attack from which victim never regained consciousness  | Updated: 10:18, 06 February 2021 A man has been jailed for three years after an assault from which his victim is now brain damaged and has never regained consciousness. At around 11.30pm on January 4, 2020, defendant Paul Hayes (46), of Quadring Road, Donnington, was drinking in the Black Bull in the village. His victim, Mark Hatcher, had also been in the pub drinking that evening. Mr Hatcher (46), from Donnington, was asked to leave the pub by a staff member and after leaving was confronted by Hayes. JAILED:Paul Hayes (44295142) A verbal argument broke out between the two men outside the pub. The two men began walking towards one another. An altercation occurred during which Mr Hatcher was punched and fell to the ground.
