Security officials foiled an attack on a police base in eastern Nigeria on Thursday killing 11 of the attackers, an official has said.
The spokesperson of the Nigerian Army, Mohammed Yerima, said the attack was by members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN); the armed wing of the outlawed separatist group, IPOB.
Security agencies had blamed the group, which wants an independent country for Igbos, for previous attacks on security officials and facilities but IPOB has denied being responsible for the attacks.
Dozens of security officials have been killed in the South-east and South-south regions of Nigeria in recent attacks on security officials and facilities.
