newsroom. i m jim acosta in washington: for standing by for the louisiana governor set to give an update as hurricane ida barrels toward the gulf coast. the storm is projected to reach category 4 strength is expected to pummel louisiana tomorrow, the 16th anniversary of hurricane katrina. the national weather service urgently warning residents to complete preelparations today, adding, quote, some places are uninhabitable for weeks or months. storm surge of 0 to 15 feet is expected along with winds as strong as 150 miles an hour. mayor of new orleans says if you re going to evacuate, now is the time to leave. evacuation orders are in effect across the state. as you can see right there, look at this video. highways in new orleans look more like parking lots as people try to evacuate. we re tracking this hurricane from all angles. cnn s derek van damme and nadia is on the ground.
