Hurricane Fiona made landfall in the Dominican Republic early Monday after slamming Puerto Rico with heavy rain, life-threatening flooding and an islandwide power outage.
Fiona was a Category 1 hurricane for both its first landfall in southwestern Puerto Rico on Sunday and its second landfall in the Dominican Republic early Monday morning.
Hurricane Fiona’s impact on Puerto Rico will be all the more devastating at a time in which the Puerto Rican society is still dealing with three major shocks: the COVID-19 pandemic, the considerable damage inflicted by Hurricanes Irma and Maria, and the ongoing effects of the island’s financial bankruptcy
