Production of Volkswagen Taos for U.S. market begins at Volkswagen de Mexico
After a successful manufacturing start for the Mexican market, the Company starts its production for foreign markets
Puebla, Mexico Feb 10, 2021; Volkswagen de México began the production of its Taos model for exportation markets this week, with the United States being the first foreign destination for this new compact SUV.
The German carmaker has produced more than 4,300 units of Taos to date for the Mexican market. With the start of production for the U.S. market, Volkswagen meets a new manufacturing milestone for the compact SUV. The production of Taos is the result of an investment of more than 400 million dollars. The Taos is expected to arrive at U.S. dealers by the end of Q2 2021.
The first examples have just rolled off the Mexican assembly line.
The all-electric ID.4 will be the most significant Volkswagen product launch in the United States since the New Beetle emerged in 1997. ID.4 production has already begun with deliveries beginning later this year, but it s not the only significant VW crossover that will arrive in the US later this year. Volkswagen de Mexico just announced the start of production for the US market 2022 Volkswagen Taos.
For those who have forgotten, the Taos is a smaller crossover model that will slot below the Tiguan in VW s lineup. The Puebla plant has already produced more than 4,300 units of Taos to date for the Mexican market, and the US will be the model s first foreign market outside of Mexico.
After starting production for the local market, Volkswagen Mexico has begun assembling the Taos for the United States at its Puebla factory.
“With Taos, Volkswagen de Mexico strengthens its position as a key player in the brand’s global strategy for the SUV segment and will increase production capacity at the Puebla Plant, with products designed for the North American Region”, said VW Mexico’s President and CEO, Steffen Reiche.
Set to take on models such as the Kia Seltos and Chevrolet Trailblazer, the Taos slots under the Tiguan and will be offered as standard with a digital instrument cluster and two-tone upholstery. Choosing a higher spec will get you features such as an 8-inch infotainment system, ambient lighting and wireless charging pad, while the options list will include heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, leather upholstery, heated steering wheel, and premium audio.
