Obayuwana
A former Edo State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Osagie Obayuwana, yesterday, led hundreds of protesters comprising a coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSO) in Benin City against rising insecurity in the country.
The protest, was, however, interrupted by members of the state Public Works Volunteers (PUWOV), who argued that the protest was against the interest of the state.
The development forced the protesters to converge on the premises of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) along Reservation Road in Benin City, where they condemned the disruption of the peaceful rally.
The protesters, who carried placards with several inscriptions blaming the Federal Government for insecurity and poverty in the country, said they converged on the New Benin Market from where they intended to march through Benin City before members of PUWOV swooped on them.
BENIN CITY – Edo State Internal Revenue Service has taken a stand against illegality with the warning to trade associations to desist from unauthorized revenue collections.
The Executive Chairman, Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), Igbinidu Inneh while handing down this warning during a tax engagement meeting with executives of Electronics and Computer Dealers Association of Nigeria (ECDAN), stated, “The sole government’s institution legally recognized to collect and account for generated revenue is the EIRS.”
Taking this stand against the backdrop that the Personal Income Tax Act (PITA) prohibits trade associations from collecting taxes on behalf of government, representative of the EIRS boss and Executive Director, Income Tax, Prince Felix Isuku, urged the association to be tax compliant by contributing their quota to the development of Edo State through the payment of taxes for sustainable infrastructural and human capital development.
