Hartford relatively unscathed as inland suburbs get slammed by Elsa

Hartford relatively unscathed as inland suburbs get slammed by Elsa DPW officials say that they are concerned about runoff from upriver in Massachusetts overwhelming the Connecticut River banks here as we go through the weekend. Author: Matt Caron Updated: 8:53 PM EDT July 9, 2021 WETHERSFIELD, Conn. At least we are safe, said Francis Rivera of Wethersfield. Tropical Storm Elsa showed her teeth even in inland Connecticut. Hartford s Reserve Road was submerged under about a foot of standing water. On Brown Street in Hartford, storm drains bubbled over. A tree fell on the wires on Barnard Street while Hartford’s notoriously flooded Blue Hills neighborhood was relatively unscathed. It’s turned out to be a little bit better than we expected. We were looking at a forecast of potentially up to five inches of rain, said Hartford Director of Public Works Michael Looney.

Storm-Tested Sensus FlexNet Communication Network From Xylem Helps Texas Municipalities Weather Historic Winter Blast

Storm-Tested Sensus FlexNet Communication Network From Xylem Helps Texas Municipalities Weather Historic Winter Blast Texas water providers rely on remote meter management and leak detection capabilities When ice, snow and bitterly cold temperatures blasted Texas in mid-February, the National Weather Service issued a first-ever winter storm warning for the entire Lone Star state. While essential service crews responded to emergencies, the storm-tested Sensus FlexNet Communication Network from Sensus, a Xylem brand, stood up to the intense winter conditions, including a rare, three-inch snowfall in the City of Arlington. “The data from our remotely managed network played a vital role in water department storm recovery,” said Arlington Water Utilities Director Craig M. Cummings. “Customers calling in issues is no longer our only source of information. With the available meter data, we can identify locations with leaks and contact the customer.”

CBD matatu relocation that proved tricky in 2020

PHOTO | LUCY WANJIRU About six months after taking the reins of Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS), Major General Mohammed Badi announced an ambitious plan. That was September and the NMS Director General said by end of November, all public service vehicles (PSVs) will be out of Nairobi central business district (CBD). According to Maj Gen Badi, the development was part of a wider plan to decongest the capital’s CBD and it was being finalised ahead of a launch by President Uhuru Kenyatta in November. The relocation strategy was to see matatus plying Ngong and Lang’ata Roads (Kawangware, Kikuyu, Kibera, Lang’ata, Rongai, Kiserian) terminate their journey at the Green Park terminus, popularly known as Railways Club.
