Community Appearance Focus For City Of Hillsboro In recent years under the leadership of former City Manager Frank Johnson, the City of Hillsboro has been addressing a number of community appearance issues, and that is expected to continue under new City Manager Megan Henderson. Line Tie-In To Shut Down Water Tower The tie-in of a new 12-inch water line will require the downtown water tower to be taken out of service Wednesday night beginning at 8 p.m. According to Public Works Director Walter Garcia, the work will be done overnight. A boil water notice is anticipated as the work to tie in the line and replace six fire hydrants is expected to take approximately six hours, well past the two-hour limit to avoid a notice. The new line is part of a $2 million grant project that took water to property owned by the Hillsboro Economic Development Corporation (HEDC) on Highway 81 and the line which connects the downtown tower to the industrial water tower site.

Water Issues Impact County As Winter Storm Recovery Continues The Hillsboro City Council met in an emergency session at noon Monday, February 22, and declared a water scarcity emergency in the city. Many other cities and water supply corporations were also dealing with their own supply issues throughout the county as the week began. The council ordered all laundry facilities and car washes to cease operations in the city through noon Wednesday, February 24. Other businesses and citizens were asked to voluntarily conserve as much water as possible. Last week’s winter storm caused over 10 major leaks in the city’s water distribution system and multiple leaks on private property. The city reported that this had caused the loss of millions of gallons of water over a period of 10 days.
