GEORGE TOWN: A 35-year-old kuih seller has been charged with the murder of a police constable who was killed while on duty.
Mohd Arraffat Taufik nodded his head when the court interpreter read out the charge in Bahasa Malaysia.
No plea was recorded after the charge was read to him before magistrate Jamaliah Abd Manap.
Based on the charge sheet, Mohd Arraffat is charged with causing the death of 22-year-old constable Muhammad Iqbal Mazlan between 1am and 2am on April 17 along Jalan Utama.

TOWN: A kuih seller was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here today with the murder of a policeman, last week.
Mohd Arafat Taufik, 35, nodded his head after the charge was read out to him before magistrate Jamaliah Abd Manap.
However, no plea was recorded from the accused as murder cases come under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
Mohd Arafat was charged with causing the death of Constable Muhammad Iqbal Mazlan, at Jalan Utama here, between 1am and 2am, on April 17.
According to the charge sheet, the accused was alleged to have ridden his motorcycle in a reckless manner before ramming into the victim’s motorcycle, causing him to fall and resulting in his death.

GEORGE TOWN: An unemployed 31-year-old man pleaded not guilty to a charge of voluntarily causing harm to a food delivery man.
Muhammad Aslam Hashim was charged with voluntarily causing harm by hitting food delivery rider Koay Eng Tat, 40, on the head with a hammer at Block P Desa Permai Indah along Jalan Helang in Sungai Dua here on April 20 at 4pm.
The charge was read under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing harm with an instrument, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years or a fine or whipping or any two of the punishments.
GEORGE TOWN: A 34-year-old cook was charged with murdering his wife by pushing her out of a window from the 18th floor of their condominium on April 10.
Daneesh Xavier was charged at the Magistrate’s Court here under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder which carried the death penalty upon conviction.
No plea was recorded. Magistrate Jamaliah Abd Manap set June 26 for the mention of the case.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Yazid Mustaqim Roslan prosecuted while Daneesh was not represented.
According to the charge sheet, Danessh is accused of pushing his 35-year-old insurance agent wife from the 18th floor of a rented condominium in Ayer Itam at around midnight.

GEORGE TOWN: The High Court has denied bail for an 18-year-old college student who allegedly tossed her baby out of a 13th-floor apartment unit in July.
M. Santhea, who was charged with the offence, pleaded not guilty to killing her newborn daughter at 8.25am on July 10 at the Sri Ivory Apartment in Bandar Baru, Ayer Itam.
The offence under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder carries the death penalty upon conviction.
Her lawyer RSN Rayer requested bail for Santhea until the case is completed but was declined by Judge Amirudin Abd Rahman.
