He is a native san franciscan and has been with the department for over 10 years, has been responsible for all of the decisions that are being made to keep us all safe and healthy. Just yesterday, we made an announcement about a safe reopening plan and i want to talk a little bit with him today about the kinds of decisions, the very hard decisions as a Public Health officer that he has to make to keep us safe. I want to touch a bit on how are we going to reopen safely. Why the decisions around masks and locations that are opening at the time they are opening. I know so many of you have so many questions and also there is a lot of uncertainty. So today we want you to meet your county Health Officer and we want to dig deep and talk about why the decisions that are made are important for us to follow and what we can do to remain safe and healthy in San Francisco. With my Opening Statement and this is the first labor hhs education appropriations subcommitteeapri hearing i would like to begin by offering a brief explanation of how that will work in order to benefit both members and the public. Highlight a new tool to help assess symptoms, and find a place to get tested. Lets look at a couple of slides about our testing data. Yesterday, we got results of 1438new pcr tests, and serology tests. As you can see from this slide, the present positivity from testing continues to trend downward. Statewide it is at about 15 . On this slide you will see the number of tests continues to trend upward. Both of these are good things. We know there are simple steps that all of us can take and should to help stop the spread of this virus. Work, and we know these guidelines will be part of our new normal as we continue to move forward. You have heard me say this hands, please wash your stay six feet away from other people, and where a Face Covering in public. Wear a Face Covering in public. When people wear masks, it goes a long ways to reduce the spread of the disease. Wearing a mask could literally save someone elses life. That is becoming clearer every day as we move further into managing
With each other what we have to do it really carefully and with a planned strategy or were going to end up in a situation where its going to snap back on all of us and were going to be right back where we are now. Socially distancing from one another in a more extreme way so i think what really needs to happen over the next several weeks and months is that states really should be opening up slowly and considerably with very consistent metrics. I think that we have to have kind of testing everyones been speaking about and the ability to trace and isolate those that are positive in all states. Before we begin opening up and certainly before we begin having any very large crowd events. So the thing thats keeping me up at night right now is sort of the lack of a unified strategy. The way that that happening in a emslightly more piecemeal way across the country so first is that we need to have a unified plan for reopening with a little bit more specificity than what weve seen coming out of
Gov. Cuomo good morning. Pleasure to be with you. Everyone knows the doctors, the. Udget director today is day 62. It feels like just yesterday. Before we look at the numbers, i just want people to recall the context for the numbers and remember what we have accomplished. We were faced with a situation where the infection rate numbers were going straight up. That was only 30 days ago that we saw the number of cases, people coming into hospital, infection rate, everything was going straight up. That number would have just continued to go straight up, and that is why all the projections, national projections, state projections, local projections turned out to be incorrect. Excuse me. Because they were all believing that that line was going to continue to keep going up. Is new yorkers, americans, change reality. Literally change reality. They literally changed the path of the virus spread and reversed the spread, and that is what the closedown procedures did. That is what the masks that d
