Wash. state pauses use of J&J vaccine out of abundance of caution KOMO News Staff © Provided by KOMO-TV Seattle OLYMPIA, Wash. - The state Department of Health is pausing the use of the one-shot Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine, effective immediately, on the advice of federal health officials and agencies. Use of that vaccine will be put on hold until we receive further recommendations from our federal partners about how best to move forward, state health officials said in a prepared statement. Safety is the highest priority when it comes to all COVID-19 vaccines. The state Department of Health says the pause is being taken out of an abundance of caution based on the appearance of a very rare but serious side effect including serious brain blood clots combined with low platelet counts in six people who received the J&J vaccine, all women under 50.
