ShortFest to return in June as in-person event Palm Springs ShortFest is returning this summer as an in-theater event in 2021. The event will take place on June 22 to 28 at the Palm Springs Cultural Center. Passes go on sale on May 17. Tickets and the schedule of films will be available during the first week of June.  Palm Springs International Film Society artistic director Liliana Rodriguez said in an email to The Desert Sun the festival has worked toward a safe return to the theatrical experience for more than a year.  The safety of patrons, filmmakers and staff remain our priority and we ll be following all of the guidelines to ensure that the festival is not only enjoyable but as safe as can be, Rodriguez said. 

Riverside County remains in orange tier for 2 more weeks

Riverside County will remain in the orange tier for another two weeks as its COVID-19 metrics again remained above the threshold for lifting more business restrictions, according to data released by public health officials at Tuesday s Board of Supervisors meeting. The county reported a case rate of 3.9 new daily COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents compared to last week s 4.5. The county s positivity rate is 2.1% and its positivity among at-risk populations is 2.1%, according to Public Health Director Kim Saruwatari.  Last week s positivity rate was 2.3% and positivity among at-risk populations was 2.9%. So those numbers have come down, we re actually on four consecutive days of the numbers coming down, incremental decreases, but trending in the right direction nonetheless, said Saruwatari at Tuesday s meeting.
