it was part of the reason why so many people voted for donald trump. because he was supposed to clean this up. he was supposed to drain the swamp. he was supposed to bring in a new level of transparency. and frankly, he has so many rich people in his cabinet, everybody thought, well, great! nobody s going to be doing any corrupt acts. and instead, what we ve seen is nothing but corruption. listen, i was in san francisco this weekend. i was at the academy of sciences. i was looking at the swamp things there. and i couldn t tell the difference between what i was seeing in the aquarium and what i was seeing in washington. i saw an albino alligator! the only one who s not laughing is mike. so mike, i ll ask you. cnn is learning that trump called pruitt last night and told him, quote, we got your back. do you believe that? because then we heard that, and then they re gone within a couple days or a couple weeks. yeah, i think anyone who s in the president s cabinet knows they could be go
laughing is mike. so mike, i ll ask you. cnn is learning that trump called pruitt last night and told him, quote, we got your back. do you believe that? because then we heard that, and tha then they re gone within a couple days or a couple weeks. yeah, i think anyone who s in the president s cabinet knows they could be gone at any moment. he ll switch them out for somebody and that s why the american people are fine with that. that s why term limits have been so popular. we re fine with getting rid of politicians until they do the things we want. i believe it s a former lobbyist, not a current lobbyist. i think it s worth noting that, that he s been renting this from. and i think it s worth pointing out, a lot of the scrutiny around pruitt that the media has been covering about in the first place how much money he spends on travel, yet it paled in comparison to what his predecessor in the obama administration paid for travel, and yet we didn t seem to have a lot of these stories. i t
attorney general and new york times reports that that same lobbying firm got a pipeline expansion project approved as pruitt stayed in the condo just 50 bucks a night. under that cloud of controversy, trump called pruitt last night to tell him, quote, we ve got your back. don fox is with me, former director of the u.s. office of ethics. nice to see you, sir. just on that reporting from us in the new york times, does that raise, you know, ethical flags, violations to you, sir? brooke, it raises all kinds of ethical flags. this is not scott pruitt going into the local holiday inn express and asking for the government discount which, in fact, he could accept because it s a discount available to all federal employees. this is a special deal for scott pruitt from someone who actually has business before his agency and by any number of standards, it violates the standards of account that are applicable to all federal employees, including
jury, had to testify, so journal yesterday went ahead and reported that they came across an e-mail, they have seen an e-mail from roger stone to sam nunberg, where he claims that back in august, even back in august of 2016, that, quote, i dined with julian assange last night. and the importance of that is that robert mueller, the special counsel, are investigating whether or not there was some kind of coordination, whether anyone that trump campaign knew that julian assange was about to publish these e-mails. now, roger stone denied that he had this dinner, said he was joking to sam nunberg. but nonetheless, these questions about roger stone and his connection to julian assange keep coming up and certainly from everything we know is part of the mueller investigation. shimon, thank you so much. thanks to evan perez as well. joining me now, cnn legal analyst paul callan and senior politics reporter and editor at large chris cillizza with us.
