President Tate has announced his first major personnel rearrangement. He has demoted Provost Stacia Haynie. This comes roughly a month after the Baton Rouge Business Report ran a story detailing her efforts to increase the number of women in upper leadership at the university. She was working on improving the lack of female representation across the university.
Tate has been on the job for less than a week, and the optics of firing the highest-ranking female on campus as his first decision are not good. Especially in a campus environment where women have no reason to trust the university.
Stacia Haynie is no longer LSU s executive vice president and provost, according to an email…
BATON ROUGE – Keeping his word, President Tom Galligan recognized the LSU 2020 graduates with in-person ceremonies on Friday, May 14, in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
“Last spring, we gave you our word that no matter how long we had to wait, we would gather in person to celebrate your awesome achievement and cheer you on as you walk across this stage,” Galligan said. “The wait is over. Your day is here, and after everything we have endured and overcome over the past year, today’s commencement feels even more special to me, and I hope it does for all of you, too.”
The end of next month will mark one year after George Floyd was killed by former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, leading to an eruption of Black Lives Matter protests across the country in 2020.
Eight days after his death, Black Out LSU organized students to peacefully demonstrate against police brutality and racial inequality in the Quad. It would be the first protest of many in a year at LSU that was characterized by student activism.
From the protests that erupted in Baton Rouge after the death of George Floyd, to the sit-in protests against the Universityâs mishandling of sexual assault allegations, students have put constant pressure on local leaders and administrators throughout the 2020-21 school year.
