Andy Doig A consultation will be launched on introducing more safety measures at a notoriously dangerous Johnstone junction, council chiefs have insisted. Two elderly women were knocked down at the town centre junction of Walkinshaw Street and High Street in October, with one of them tragically losing her life and the other receiving extensive treatment in hospital. Roads chiefs came under pressure last month from campaigning Johnstone councillor Andy Doig to ask the community whether they felt the crossroads should be made safer after the horror collision. With the junction being surrounded by a sheltered housing complex and home to the town’s main Post Office, there are a high number of pensioners using it and Councillor Doig claimed pedestrians need to have “eyes in the back of their head” when crossing the road.
