An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred early morning on Saturday 22 May 2021 at 2:42 am local time near Tacna, Provincia de Tacna, Peru, as reported by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ).

An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred early morning on Monday 10 May 2021 at 2:34 am local time near Tacna, Provincia de Tacna, Peru, as reported by the United States Geological Survey.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 10 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.2 earthquake as well.
