RUTLAND At first it seemed like a mystery.
It was May 8 when Amy Benoit s granddaughter, waking after a sleepover, noticed something was amiss: the door to her grandmother s Little Free Library in the front yard was ajar. She said, Mem, the door to the library is open! Benoit recalled, and as they went out to check, what they saw left her granddaughter incredulous. And, there s scribbling on it, she exclaimed.
Sometime during the night vandals had struck. They wrote on the hand-made library and on the glass in the little front door and even on the books that were neatly displayed and free for the taking by passersby hungry for anything from a pager-turner to a picture book.
