The Biden administration will order 200-million more doses of the COVID vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna. It s in an effort to reach their goal of 100-million doses in 100 days. But those doses won’t just magically appear.  At Protein Sciences in Meriden, they’ve been developing two of their own COVID vaccines, but last month, they hit a snag. The concentration of their formula wasn t strong enough to produce an adequate immune response in older adults. So now, they are shifting focus to help Pfizer manufacture their vaccine while also continuing their own research.

Connecticut could get its first shipments of COVID vaccine this weekend and we are learning new information about the intake process, and rollout of the first shots. Plus, there is news that a vaccine company with Connecticut ties has suffered a setback in their vaccine development. Protein Sciences here in Meriden is a Sanofi company. FOX61 broke the news that a COVID vaccine was being researched and developed there. We learned on Friday that their vaccine will be delayed.  Back in September, Clem Lewin of Sanofi told FOX61, We are on track to start our phase 3 trial in December and Produce 100-million doses by early next year.

Protein Sciences in Meriden announce setback with COVID-19 vaccine

The reason cited was that older adults did not generate an "adequate immune response" due to a low concentration of antigens that tell the body to make antibodies.
