Pakistan among top 10 countries affected due to climate change Islamabad February 9, 2021 Islamabad:Pakistan has persistently been reckoned among the top 10 most affected countries due to climate change where its recent ranking descended from number 5. A recent German Watch Report of the Long-term Global Climate Risk Index 2020, a global think-tank working on climate change, had rated Pakistan number 8th most affected country due to adverse impacts of climate change. The data was reckoned from 2000 to 2019 that mentioned the country facing 0.3 per cent life losses per 100,000 inhabitants and $3.8 billion economic losses due to recurrent phenomenon of floods and climate change induced catastrophes.

‘Nature reserves to boost adventure, heritage tourism’ National February 8, 2021 Islamabad: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam has said that the newly notified nature reserves would help boost adventure, historic and heritage tourism in the area along with generating green jobs and business opportunities for locals under 10 Billion Tree Tsunami. Talking to this agency with regard to three newly inaugurated interconnected nature reserves spreading over Parera, Ara and Dil Jabba areas of 18,000 acres in Chakwal district of the Punjab, he said these reserves were home to the most attractive tourist and heritage sites of Tilla Jogian, Nandana Fort, Sikki waterfall, Sikki Lake and most interesting paragliding point.

More national parks to be established till 2023

More national parks to be established till 2023 Islamabad December 20, 2020 Islamabad: The number of national parks in the country would be increased up to forty-five till 2023 under the Protected Areas Initiative to improve the forest cover, protect wildlife, and address climate change threats. According to the details, Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed the climate change ministry to sort out modalities and complete spadework to increase the number of national parks especially in the high-altitude areas. The initiative is aimed at preserving the depleting forest cover and dwindling wildlife habitats across the country that would cost around Rs2,400 million. It will be supported with the launch of Pakistan’s first institutional ‘National Parks Service’ which will protect and conserve them as biodiversity reserves and wildlife habitats.
