Challenging. And if you could visualize an educational system where a child is continuously challenged if they cant achieve a level theyre shunted off to a different challenge or theyre asked to do it over again. You now have education thats tailored to the individual. And i am absolutely convinced that that is going to create a class of smarter people. Our children are going to be smarter than we are and their children will be smarter than they are. And is that a good thing . Yeah, i think so. Smarter people do everything better. Ask we could solve some and we could solve some really important problems like eliminating war. So ive gone on a little bit from the spectrum issue. Host and finally, what kind of cell phone are you using today . Guest well, i, you know, i always have the latest cell phone you better. Guest peter. I dont want folks to believe it was because of a lack of production. If you all were ready to go, the whole congress wouldve been ready to go. I would agree with that. With Great Respect the last time i checked your Party Controls the house and the senate. It seems to me that Homeland Security bill that was negotiated in good faith between the house and the senate should move on its own merit and then you can bring up legislation anytime to deal with the immigration issue. I would welcome that. I support comprehensive Immigration Reform. Certainly, you may disagree with the president s actions but there is no reason when there are such threats in the world today. Just look at what happened in paris last week. That you would hold up a Homeland Security bill because of the immigration issue. Lets have a real debate. I welcome it. With respect, it is true the last time you checked we did control both houses. After time we passed the on meet omnibus bill, we did not. What i thought to unde
Because given the speed and complexity of the challenges were talking in cyber, thats where weve got to get. We have to work our way through how we do that in the u. S. Department of Homeland Security which plays a central role here. Our capabilities support them and other u. S. Government support partners in attempts to do that. On that topic as a journalist, ive asked the nsa whether my Cell Phone Communications have been monitored in any way because i submitted through proper channels, i got a response we appealed. And we got a stock response which others have gotten. Im a journalist, i lived overseas a lot of the time. As part of my work, i spoke to people who i would imagine you might want to listen to, some in the terror community, et cetera. As a lawabiding american, why wont the nsa tell me if theyve looked at my phone communications . First youre asking me directly. I dont know. But its a policy because they told others the same thing. What i would say is look its a matter of

But winnie was my boss here, and it was an honor to work for her. I learned so much from her, so thank you for the introduction and thank you for hosting u
Expenditure of our federal resources in incarceration and the i think the average on mandatory minimums is about 11year incarceration and so without going too far, are you suggesting that those resources could be applied in other ways to make us safer . Absolutely. As ive looked at the spending of the department of justice and seeing that the bureau of prisons each and every year takes up a larger and larger percentage of the department of justice budget, that money has to come from somewhere and where its been coming from is money for agents and prosecutors and also critically importantly money for state and Law Enforcement assistance for the cop on the street. Those are the things that i believe keep our country safe. Now, let me say there are some defendants who need those long sentences. There are some who need to be this prison for a very long time. Because they are dangerous and our Society Needs to be protected from them but i think we need to use those lengthy sentences in a sm
