Excitement grows for first Proserpine Show Ball in 25 years

Premium Content Subscriber only The annual Proserpine Show Ball makes its much-anticipated comeback this weekend and it is already a sold-out success. The not-for-profit community event is back on Saturday, May 15, for the first time in 25 years, and organisers have had no trouble selling 500 tickets to punters keen for night of unforgettable entertainment. The black-tie event is a fundraiser for the Proserpine Show Society, which, like many businesses and community groups, took a significant financial hit during the COVID-19 crisis. Proceeds will go to refurbishing ageing infrastructure at the Proserpine showgrounds for the annual agricultural show, as well as the numerous other events that use the grounds.

Show must go on: $50K boost for Bowen, Whitsunday shows

Bowen Show Society president Mick Boyce said the show offered lots of entertainment options for families, such as a smash-up derby, fireworks and monster trucks. It s something for the kids to look forward to, he said. With ageing infrastructure at the showgrounds, Mr Boyce said the funding would help cover ongoing maintenance costs associated with amenities like water and electricity. Dawson MP George Christensen visited Proserpine and Bowen on Thursday to officially announce the funding, saying it would help make-up for money that would have usually come in through the shows had they not been cancelled. When you don t have the funds for an event one year, it s after to cover costs for the next year, he said.
