State justices in a 6-1 decision last July ruled Veach must receive a new trial on the basis the trial judge, Macomb Circuit Judge Joseph Toia, failed to articulate his reason for the courtroom to be closed during the victim’s testimony.
The plea deal was reached under the deferred sentencing law in which she will appear in court Feb. 6 at which she will agree to pay back all of the funds within 11 months, at which time the charge will be reduced.
