Jersey City fatal shooting victim is identified as East Orange man

The man who was shot dead early Friday morning in Jersey City has been identified as an East Orange resident, authorities said.
Police responding to gunfire at the City Crossings Apartments at Merseles Court and Bright Street at 1:50 a.m. found Stebbin Drew, 37, with gunshot wounds to his torso, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Drew was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2:13 a.m.
The fatal shooting is the 10th homicide in Jersey City this year, with an additional death last week being investigated as suspicious. There were 16 homicides in all of 2020 in Jersey City, according to the HCPO. The city put that total at 17, adding a victim who died in 2020 from an incident that occurred previously.

A man was shot dead in the area of Merseles Street in Jersey City early Friday morning, the Hudson County Prosecutor said.
The fatal shooting is being investigated by the Prosecutor’s Office’s Homicide Unit and Jersey City police. A person in the area told police that they heard five or six shots fired, according to police radio transmissions.
Also, police arriving at the scene found windows of a vehicle had been shot out, police said in the transmissions.
The homicide is Jersey City’s 10th this year, with an additional suspicious death under investigation. In 2020, there were 16 Jersey City homicides, according to HCPO statistics. City officials list their total at 17, counting a victim from a previous year who died in 2020.
