New Apartment Building Approved In Tecumseh

The Town of Tecumseh will see the construction of another new apartment building. Tuesday evening, Town Council approved the site plan for a new four-storey, 38-unit apartment building at 11941 Tecumseh Road just west of Shawnee Road. The building will consist of 27 two-bedroom and 11 one-bedroom rental units along with an asphalted parking area to the rear of the apartment building with 57 spaces. The first is a $100,000 Development Charges grant, the maximum available, to be applied to total Development Charges of just over $300,000. The second was a Building and Property Improvement Grant to offset municipal property tax increases associated with the development for a period of five years. The Property Improvement Grant has contributed close to $500,000 in grants and leveraged almost $5.8 million dollars in local investments. “We continue to see a need to create and support places to live, work and play in the community. Our permanent and seasonal population continues to grow, and the downtown plays a large role in that.  Whether creating new residential units through the Residential Rehabilitation/Conversion Grant, supporting new businesses through the signage improvements grant, or our existing property owners with improved facades, this program is key to driving investment in our downtown core,” says Mayor Kelly.
