BEIRUT (AP) Journalist Talal Salman, who founded one of Lebanon's largest Arabic-language independent newspapers, died Friday after a long illness, the state-run National News Agency said. He was 85.
Dima Sadek, was imprisoned following a lawsuit filed against her three years ago by the head of the Free Patriotic Movement party, Gebran Bassil, who accused her of defamation.
Prominent Lebanese lawyer Nizar Saghieh, who heads the local rights-based organization Legal Agenda, faces the threat of sanction – including possible disbarment – for speaking out against the Beirut Bar Association’s decision to arbitrarily and unlawfully limit what lawyers can say in public.
