Germany s two biggest listed landlords Vonovia (VNAn.DE) and Deutsche Wohnen (DWNG.DE) have agreed to join forces in an 18 billion euro ($22 billion) deal they hope will defuse tensions over soaring rents ahead of general elections in September.
The country s biggest merger this year will create a European real estate giant with 550,000 apartments. It comes as Deutsche Wohnen has become the focus of popular anger in Berlin over tenant rights and affordable housing.

Now Carmen Gray is planning to use food and cooking as a way to engage the community in a discussion to support mental health and combat violence in an interactive program she titled “Who Cracked My Egg?”
For the program, Carmen Gray is extending a virtual invitation for everyone to join her in her kitchen in Palm Coast from 7 to 8 p.m. on April 13.
Participants can choose from three recipes to cook. They can cook one or all three. She asks that people join 10 minutes before the program starts.
“It’s an educational piece in which I’m able to show through the simplicity of a three-part egg: the shell; the yolk; the egg white,” Gray said, “to break those down to show what happens when trauma happens to an individual.”
“One possibility is that there may be role-model benefits, so having a Black teacher in front of the class, being a subject-matter expert, might act as role model and increase children’s long-term aspirations for themselves,” she said.
According to Hart, there’s also good evidence in the social science literature that students are responsive to the expectations that we hold for them. Research shows that Black teachers tend to hold slightly higher expectations for their Black students. And Black educators are more likely to use references or examples that tap into the lived experience of their Black students.
Constance Lindsay, an assistant professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s School of Education, was also a contributing researcher to the paper on the role-model effect. Lindsay has spent a great deal of her career thinking about racial achievement gaps and the particular policies and practices that might help close them. She said one of the policy
