Event Scheduled For This Weekend To Benefit Initiative That Helps In Finding Missing Persons
May 20, 2021
An event to benefit an organization that helps to find missing people who have dementia or any other cognitive disorder is scheduled for this weekend in Catawba County. Project Lifesaver is a non-profit nationwide program that was established in Chesapeake Virginia in 1999.
The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office adopted the Project Lifesaver program a little over ten years ago when a former captain of school resource officers, Alton Price, decided it would benefit the community. The program utilizes waterproof devices that track the missing person. The individual only gets 150 yards away before the caregiver is alerted. Locally, there are an average of ten to 15 calls per year.
