Wilma L Waters – Ellery

Wilma L. Waters, age 86 of Ellery, IL passed from this life to the next on March 8, 2021 at Rest Haven Manor in Albion, IL. Wilma was born on December 7, 1934 in Lawrenceville, IL to Wendell A. and Olive L. (Shaw) Warren.  She married Lloyd Waters on September 22, 1954 in Tacoma, WA. Wilma was a farm wife who worked right alongside Lloyd; she drove tractors and trucks and helped with livestock.  She was also a 4-H leader of the Little Prairie Pardners.   She was the last surviving member of the Progressive Women’s Club.  Once her children were raised, Wilma also worked as a cook in the nursing home and worked in a daycare.  Raising a big garden for canning and flowers was an annual event in her life, and Wilma enjoyed taking her entries to the Edwards County Fair.   She was a member of the Ellery Christian Church.

Thursday, January 7, 2021 Joan “Jo-Ann” Brewer Thompson passed away Jan. 2, 2021, at her home in Marked Tree at the age of 85. Joan was born Nov. 11, 1935 in Lepanto to parents Henry Ervin Brewer and Maddie Odell Moore Brewer. She is survived by her husband Bill Thompson; her two sons, Billy Thompson (Don May) of Memphis, Tenn., and Allan Thompson (Kevin Falk) of Kauai, Hawaii. She also leaves her sister, Mary Elizabeth Weeks of Bruce, Miss. Joan was born and raised in and around Marked Tree. She was one of 13 children of Ervin and Odell Brewer. She married Bill Thompson in 1960 and immediately began traveling around the U.S. and the world during his 20 year career as an officer in the Army. In addition to raising two sons, she was active in the Officers Wives’ Club serving on boards and as president.
