MARSHALL The eagerly-awaited Marshall Speech Spectacular–a cherished annual high school speech event comprised of 34 schools from six states–had a significantly different look and feel to it in its 21st year of competition on Saturday.
Held at what would normally be a bustling Marshall High School filled with thousands of people, this year’s tournament had a much quieter atmosphere as the event moved to a virtual format due to COVID.

Mitchell High School speech and debate team member Alexis Little Bear was a first place finisher at the recent Lincoln Silverbowl Tournament. The tournament was held in a virtual format.
Little Bear took first place in Honors Novice Oratory at the tournament. Other team members who placed at the competition included:
Liam Semmler took second place in Honors Varsity Oratory.
Shawn Boehmer took second place in Novice Extemporaneous.
Joe Gebel took third place in International Extemporaneous.
Iris Anderson took fifth place in Informative Speaking.
Ellie Hart took fifth place in Novice Oratory.
