Further extension of Greater Sydney Hotspot for Commonwealth Support

Department of Health The Australian Government Acting Chief Medical Officer, Professor Michael Kidd, has extended the COVID-19 Hotspot for the purposes of Commonwealth support for Greater Sydney, including the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Shellharbour and Wollongong, until 28 August 2021. A COVID-19 hotspot was initially declared for seven Local Government Areas in Sydney for the purposes of Commonwealth support from 23 June 2021 for 7 days, with subsequent extensions announced. The current COVID-19 hotspot declaration for Greater Sydney, including the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Shellharbour and Wollongong, is in place until 11:59pm on 30 July 2021. Community transmission and increasing case numbers have continued in these areas, with ongoing emergence of epidemiologically unlinked cases, and cases who were infectious while in the community. Department of Health The Acting Australian Government Chief Medical Officer, Professor Michael Kidd, has lifted the COVID-19 hotspot declaration of Greater Melbourne, Moorabool Shire, City of Greater Geelong, Surf Coast Shire, Borough of Queenscliff, Bass Coast Shire (including Phillip Island), and the Rural City of Mildura, from 11:59pm on 27 July 2021. The Victorian Government today announced a lifting of lockdown restrictions for the state. Recent cases have been in known contacts who are already in quarantine or isolating. With this reassuring situation, the Acting Chief Medical Officer Professor Michael Kidd has decided to lift the declaration of Greater Melbourne, Moorabool Shire, City of Greater Geelong, Surf Coast Shire, Borough of Queenscliff, Bass Coast Shire (including Phillip Island), and the Rural City of Mildura as a hotspot from 11:59pm on 27 July 2021.

Share on Twitter Two-thirds of the staff at the Sydney aged care facility where there has been a COVID-19 outbreak remain unvaccinated, prompting calls for an urgent acceleration in the vaccine rollout for healthcare workers.  At least three aged care residents at SummitCare Baulkham Hills, located in northwest Sydney, caught COVID-19 from an infected staff member.  READ MORE All three residents reported to be positive on Sunday were fully vaccinated against the virus, and the facility s operator says all are currently asymptomatic and in good spirits. The daughter of one of the residents who tested positive said her father is terrified and has not been receiving regular communications as staff have been instructed to maintain their distance.
