Minnesotan erupts for Harris Chain victory

Overcoming a modest start, Keith Tuma of Brainerd, Minn., caught the weeks biggest bag of 26-02 Saturday to win the Harris Chain Bassmaster Southern Open with a three-day total of 58-13.
One of only two anglers to break 20 pounds twice (also 2nd-place Alex Wetherell), Tuma caught 12-06 on Day 1 and placed 58th. Friday saw him rebound with a limit of 20-05, which moved him into 10th.
Knowing he couldnt finish any lower, Tuma said he entered Saturdays final round with a relaxed attitude that helped him focus on improving.
Missourian cruises to victory at Ozarks

Michael Harlin of Sunrise Beach, Mo. brought five bass to the scale Saturday weighing 20-06 to win the Lake of the Ozarks Plains Division Toyota Series event. Harlin weighed in 15 bass over three days of competition totaling 62-01, besting 2nd-place angler Andy Newcomb of Camdenton, Mo. by more than 15 pounds. For his victory, Harlin earned the top payout of $37,802.
Each day was a little different in how the bite unfolded for Harlin, but he caught his fish all three days doing the same thing throwing an umbrella rig while watching his forward-facing sonar.

More accurately, the jig family. Never one to be caught unprepared to adapt and adjust to whatever a given fishery may present, he keeps a selection of jigs handy. In his view, theres no one jig for every situation, but theres almost always one for any situation.

When Patrick Walters happened across a golden opportunity, the Bassmaster Elite Series pro from Summerville, S.C., stepped on the gas and sacked up a five-bass limit of 24 pounds to lead day 1 of the Harris Chain Bassmaster Southern Open in Florida.
Walters, who opened his 2021 season with a 4th-place finish in the Elite tournament at the St. Johns River, said he typically approaches Florida events by moving fast in practice to locate productive areas and then slowing down with methodical tournament execution.
Thursday saw him go off script.

BassFan Senior Editor Following is some pattern information for the 2nd- through 5th-place finishes at the recent Bass Pro Tour REDCREST championship event at Alabama s Lake Eufaula.
2nd: Michael Neal
Michael Neal, still seeking his first victory at the sport s top level, logged the 11th Top-5 finish of his career. He caught 10 fish for 31-04 in the finals, trailing winner Dustin Connell by a little more than 5 1/2 pounds.
He used a ChatterBait to catch shallow fish from pockets on the Qualifying Round days, then switched to brushpiles with a jerkbait and a spinnerbait in the Knockout and Championship rounds.
