National February 17, 2021 ISLAMABAD: Barring exceptions, political parties have by and large rewarded their diehard and committed leaders by awarding tickets to them for the March 3 Senate elections. The loyalty of several of the aspirants is beyond an iota of doubt. They have stood with their respective parties come rain or shine and defended their party’s line regardless of whether it was right or misplaced. Among these loyalists are Shibli Faraz, Saifullah Niazi, Dr Zarqa, Taj Haider, Sherry Rehman, Palwasha Khan, Farhatullah Babar, Karim Khawaja, Pervez Rashid, Mushahidullah Khan, Prof Sajid Mir, Farooq H Naek and Salim Mandviwala. Some hopefuls for the Senate have been surprisingly left out. They include Muhammad Zubair, Babar Awan and Shahzad Akbar.

PML-N finalises five candidates for Senate poll - Newspaper

LAHORE: The PML-N on Friday finalised five candidates against 11 Senate seats, including two each for technocrats and women, for Punjab and kept decision for the others pending as the last date for filing the nominations ends today (Saturday). Each of the four provincial assemblies will elect seven senators against general seats, two technocrats and as many women on March 3. The PML-N has, so far, nominated former information minister Pervaiz Rashid, outgoing Senator Mushahidullah Khan and Prof Sajid Mir against the general seats. Prof Mir, the president of the Jamiat Ahle Hadith Pakistan, an ally, has been accommodated for the fifth time by the PML-N from its quota. He was the first to be confirmed as a PML-N ticket-holder. It is believed that Gulf connections work in making the Sharifs to award a party ticket for the Senate to a person who heads a separate political party.
