An automated DNA extractor machine was installed in the department of Zoology, BHU for creating a DNA bank in the university to understand the impact of any future epidemic on the population. The machine is capable of extracting DNA from any biological material like blood, saliva, hair, or tissue. The plan is to collect 50,000 samples of different castes and tribes from all over north India, which will take at least five years. The DNA data of these samples will be made available in the next phase of the project.
