SSS President and CEO Aurora Ignacio made this disclosure even as the House Committee on Public Accounts directed the SSS to submit a full report explaining its management of the social pension fund, including documents detailing its P550 billion investments in various income-earning ventures.
Chaired by Probinsyano Ako Rep. Jose “Bonito” C. Singson Jr. , the House panel launched its inquiry into the management by state-owned firms of social security and medical care funds in order to ensure their financial stability.
Singson said a simultaneous investigation will be conducted into the fund management of the Government Service Insurance System and the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation.
Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano and Speaker Lord Allan Velasco
Probinsyano Ako partylist Rep. Jose “Bonito” Singson lashed at Cayetano’s “BTS (Back to Service) sa Congress” coalition for acting as “spoiled brats” and for supposedly politicking.
“Honestly, they acted like self-entitled, petulant children during their little presscon. They kept on emphasizing that they will continue to work as Congressmen, despite losing their Committee Chairmanships and positions. Since when is this a pre-requisite to work?,” he said in a statement issued after Cayetano’s group held a presser in Quezon City.
“So taong bayan pa ang may utang na loob sa kanila dahil nagtratrabaho sila kahit wala silang special appointments? Talk about being spoiled brats!”

Atienza said allies of the speaker were surprised Defensor complained that he was not informed of the plan to remove him as chairman of the powerful House Committee on Public Accounts.
He disclosed that many of them were anticipating Defensor’s resignation immediately upon Velasco’s assumption as speaker last October because this is the “most honorable thing to do under the circumstances.”
“Some people have lost their political sense of ‘delicadeza.’ They made their choice, they must realize that they cannot have the best of both worlds,” said Atienza.
