the best ones. they want to cherry pick through the island, look for a few of those gems that might be in barns or under tarp somewhere that really could be add to the collection or really be worth something. is anybody giving an amount as to what they could fetch some of these cars if they re in good condition, at least? well, i haven t heard any estimates, per se, but on those true collector cars, they re going to pay record market prices. if you had a mercedes from the 1950s in pristine shape, that s $500,000 car. now, these ones that everyone knows most, these 1955 bellaires and these old plymouths and chryslers running around, they re not going to be worth much at all. collectors might want them anyway because they re such huge notoriety just to have them. well, there s kind of a romantic notion to having them, right? absolutely. it s one of the things that really sort of says a lot about modern day cuba. it s part of the color, the culture of the island is these
sale, you, probably like me, are wondering why everybody is so crazy for these shoes. first of all, people don t buy these shoes to wear them. they buy these shoes to collect them. so literally taking them out of the box is already a no-no. they want to keep them in pristine shape. and apparently some of the people lining up because consider michael jordan retired eight years ago. there s people fighting for shoes and they have never even seen michael jordan play basketball. you help me figure out what the craziness is but we have one gift that is the it gift and this is the it gift, alex. and somebody is probably standing over your shoulder waiting to take that, right? reporter: they saw me hold these up at 7:00 in the morning on the today show and within five minutes somebody was saying, can i buy those shoes from you? i said, look how tiny they are. they said, i don t care.
and i like to at least have a pony tail because then you can see we re in space and it s floating around. it s always the simple things. there s a three to five-second delay because we are talking to space or up in space. mike, i want to ask you this one, discovery has been up many times. we look at the miles discovery has been on. are there leaks in the sunroof, tears in the up holtry? is it creeking a little bit more? you know, it s a great question. but flying in space the hardware has to work pretty well perfectly. i think i can safely say discovery is at the top of her game. defended by the ground crew that services her. she is just in pristine shape. no, it s wonderful to fly on.
