Doreen: MISD would be smart to expand IDEA partnership

Some may forget that the original plan for Travis Elementary in Midland – one of the worst-performing campuses in the state – was to turn it over to an Arizona-based charter operator.
Midland ISD, however, couldn’t close a deal with Legacy Traditional Schools. I believe this will be one of the most significant moments in the academic turnaround of education in Midland when we look back in five to 10 years.
Ultimately, Midland ISD went with IDEA Public Schools, something I admittedly have been excited about since the announcement was made. Midland ISD needed someone with a record of success to be that partner at Travis, and IDEA has that record.
