of the jewish community in pittsburgh who said they felt a lot of relief when that conviction came down. just to describe the tone inside the courtroom, it was also silent as they read the first charges and the first guilty verdicts. it shows you intently the community has been paying attention to this trial. i want to touch on the charges that robert bauers was found guilty of. 63 federal charges, also guilty of 22 of the capital offenses, it was the instruction of the free exercise of religious beliefs resulting in death. the jury said robert bauers killed jewish worshippers while they were exercising their religious freedom. it has been a long time coming and a hard trial to listen to over the past three weeks. i ll bring up one testimony we heard. we heard from carole black. she was a survivor of the shooting. she described hiding in a closet while bullets were ringing out above her. she saw her friend mel wax be killed. she testified he immediately went down on his back.
loyalty oaths. i criticized the democratic party in arkansas because they had a party loyalty oath. i stood against that, and now i see a republican party that s trying to not just protect their princip principles, which i support, but they re trying to protect a particular person and say that the trump party is dominating. i think we re about our principles and about the party itself, the republican party. so i want to be on the debate. i expect to be on the debate stage. this is challenging. wolf, if i might add, i ve handled these kind of cases before. i know how long it s going to take. ordinarily you might have this case against donald trump tried next june, but i suspect that it s going to be ongoing and so we re going to be far into the year and not know the outcome of that trial. so, they re asking us to pledge support across the board for a candidate that we don t know what s going to be the outcome
do down. but just in his outstretched arm i saw the scope of history of john mccain. both of his arms were so grievously injured. he has never been able to comb his own hair. he can t raise them above shoulder height. everything he was about was put into that moment, a vote he could not cast despite feverish lobbying efforts. looking back, it was so john mccain. if you are looking for a republican senator who has never strayed from his set of princip principles, that s john mccain. stop listening to the loud mouths on the radio and television and the internet. to hell with them. [ applause ] they don t want anything done for the public good. our incapacity is their livelihood. they won t always be in line with what democrats like and believe to be the right
radicals. but that descent led to women getting the vote which made us a better country. what we need is to listen to one another. you don t have to give up your princip principles. in the case of the nfl make it clear i stand for the national anthem. i mouth the words to the anthem and frequently sing it out loud. with those protesting and making descent i try to listen and say what is it that they are trying to call attention to? they are trying to call attention to racial injustice. the accusation that they are antimilitary and antiamerican simply is not true. we need to lower the volume and talk to one another, listen to one another. don t have to agree with those descent but see where they are coming from because that leads to empathy. we need empathy in the country.
apply these visions and princip principles. offer solutions. we ran on this last year. now we re basically four-sixths a way of putting this jeagenda t of law. out of the house. i wish i could say the senate is moving as fast. 260 are still sitting in the senate. we have a ways to go and we got to get more work done. but that s what it is at the end of the day, it s not what i say, it s what i do and how we were fo perform. that s why we re focusing so much on this interactions out there. you turn on the tv, it s distractions galore. the results are how you lead from the table. thanks, m.t. we ll be right back with more of cnn s town hall with house speaker paul ryan. no splashing! wait so you got rid of verizon, just like that? uh-huh. i switched to t-mobile, kept my phone-everything on it-
